Our Charlotte Picks

Here are some of Robinson Bradshaw’s favorite Charlotte places and activities — maybe you will find your new favorite Charlotte Pick among ours!

My Charlotte pick is a Tosco Music Party because the price is right, the sing-a-longs are fun, and you get to hear a lot of different acts.

Tommy Holderness

My Charlotte pick is the beer garden at Olde Meck Brewery in South End. Nothing goes together quite like crisp fall air, fresh-baked pretzels and craft beer.

Stuart Pratt

My Charlotte pick is the statue of Hugh McManaway at the corner of Queens and Providence roads because it is fun to see how folks dress him up.

Stoke Caldwell

My Charlotte pick is going to the Comedy Zone because Charlotte attracts some top-tier comedians, and tickets are typically less than $15. It’s a cheap, entertaining evening. My second pick is drinking a Southern Girl Blonde Ale at Sycamore Brewing. Sycamore attracts a large crowd of young professionals, and it has a great outdoor space with live music.

Amanda Pickens

My Charlotte pick is dinner at Blue Parrot Grill on Lake Norman, a nice lakeside bar with a great casual atmosphere. You really can’t beat sitting on the patio overlooking the lake while enjoying good food, drinks and friends.

Lani Barnes

My Charlotte pick is Pinky’s Westside Grill because it has terrific falafel and fried pickles (not in the same dish).

Charles Johnson

My Charlotte pick is coffee and brunch/lunch at Amelie’s Uptown followed by an afternoon stroll in Romare Bearden Park. My other pick is a Friday or Saturday evening in NoDa involving Hop, Drop ‘n Roll, a local award-winning beer, with a burger and fries from Jack Beagles and then live music at the Evening Muse or Neighborhood Theatre.

Nick Allmon

My Charlotte pick is the Manor Theatre. It shows art and independent films and has the nicest employees of any movie theater in town.

Jane Ratteree

My Charlotte pick is Knights stadium for good beer, amusing baseball and fun.

Jonathan Krisko

My Charlotte pick is the new restaurant Corkbuzz. I work out of our Research Triangle office, but I was in Charlotte recently for a meal there, and it was delicious!

Elizabeth Morales

My Charlotte pick is dinner or drinks at Dressler’s in the Metropolitan because of the view it has of Uptown.

Rob Harrington

My Charlotte pick is Vietnam Grill because the food is great and you can BYOB.

Blaine Sanders

My Charlotte pick is the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. It is a jewel of a museum, with priceless and iconic masterworks, just a short walk from our office, and the perfect venue for concerts and other events.

Rich Worf

My Charlotte pick is The King’s Kitchen on Trade Street because you will enjoy some great home cooking and support deserving people at the same time. My second pick is Bettie Lou’s Coca Cola Cake at Savor on Morehead Street — you have never had a more unique and mouth-watering chocolate dessert in your life.

Fitz Barringer

My Charlotte pick is cycling on the booty loop in Myers Park because it is so pretty and bike-friendly.

Rick Starling

My Charlotte pick is grabbing a burger at Bad Daddy’s because the burgers are awesome!

Jason Wright

My Charlotte pick is Elizabeth Creamery. The homemade coconut ice cream and fresh waffle cones are amazing.

Pearlynn Houck

My Charlotte pick is jalapeño beer from Birdsong, a local brewery, because it tastes good.

David Dabbs

My Charlotte pick is taking a run (or walking your dog, or both) along the Little Sugar Creek Greenway. I can get to it from Independence Park close to my house, and it has flashes of wilderness, history and fellowship right in the middle of our city.

Julian Wright

My Charlotte pick is Amelie’s French Bakery & Café in NoDa because it has a great eclectic atmosphere and delicious baked goods and sandwiches. For those willing to be adventurous, a Saturday morning trip to the farmers market in Davidson with stops at Summit Coffee or Millstone Bakery is a great experience.

Matt Churchill

My Charlotte pick is a walk with a friend or my husband on the greenway through Freedom Park, ending with a drink and dinner at Vivace. I love to combine good exercise with the outdoors and then end with a great Italian meal. Plus, there is a great view of the Uptown skyline from Vivace.

Caroline Sink

My Charlotte pick is walking in the Fourth Ward because of all the unique houses and the wonderful little park.

John Garver

My Charlotte pick is the U.S. National Whitewater Center: lots of great outdoor activities, live entertainment and a  good place to hang out.

Kelly Loving

My Charlotte pick is picnicking and playing Frisbee, football or other outdoor games in Romare Bearden Park because it is a great way to spend time outdoors and enjoy the beautiful Charlotte skyline. My second favorite pick is the summer concert series at the U.S. National Whitewater Center. It is a fun way to enjoy good music in an outdoor atmosphere with lots of people, dogs, children, etc. It’s even more fun if you partake in some of the other great activities at the Whitewater Center, like the rafting, hiking, zip-lining or rock-wall climbing.

Ashley Carter Durbin

My Charlotte pick is spending a weekend afternoon wandering in Davidson. It is beautiful to walk around the Davidson College campus and the vibrant small-town main street has great bakeries, coffee shops, cafés and restaurants for lunch, an afternoon snack or drink, or dinner.

Allain Andry

My Charlotte pick is Jazz at the Bechtler on the first Friday evening of every month because it’s a terrific way to kick off the weekend.  Good live music has such energy, and the musicians are first-rate.

Ben Baldwin

My Charlotte pick is the U.S. National Whitewater Center because there are so many amazing outdoor activities.

Laurie Smith

My Charlotte pick is riding bikes from Park Road Shopping Center to the Metropolitan on the Little Sugar Creek greenway, followed by a cold drink or frozen yogurt on the terrace outside Hickory Tavern. It’s a little slice of nature among acres of asphalt.

Brent Torstrick

My Charlotte pick is going for a walk around the lake in Freedom Park because there’s no better place to be on a warm spring day.

John Forneris

My Charlotte pick is the Tequila House because it’s got the best music and the best outdoor balcony in Charlotte.

James Waters

My Charlotte pick is the Laurel Market because it has the best breakfast and lunch sandwiches and much better coffee than Starbucks!

Graham Holding

My Charlotte pick is fleur de sel cookies at Sunflour Baking Company because their dark chocolate is delicious and unusual. My other pick is Bonterra Restaurant. Where else can you eat in an old church with a bar where the altar once stood?

Susan Huber

My Charlotte pick is the U.S. National Whitewater Center because they have plenty of fun outdoor activities and craft beer.

Will Packard

My Charlotte pick is attending a Knights baseball game at the BB&T Ballpark.  It is a fun experience with a fantastic view and atmosphere.

Richard Vinroot

My Charlotte pick is walking around Freedom Park because it’s so pleasant.

My Charlotte pick is the brisket at Midwood Smokehouse on Central Avenue. You can get it fatty with bacon-wrapped jalapenos.

My Charlotte pick is the U.S. National Whitewater Center.  It appeals to the foodie and craft beer set as well as to the outdoor activities set, and of course particularly to those who fit both categories.

Ted Hennessey

My Charlotte pick is Alexander Michael’s because of ‘what it is’ (and the beer).

Jon Eide

My Charlotte pick is a beer or two at the Common Market in Plaza Midwood on a sunny evening.  The beer is cold and the vibe is great.
